Cummins 2020 environmental goals, now 97% completed

A long time ago, Cummins set new environmental goals in terms of products and logistics. The new goal further controls the company’s use of water, energy, and waste based on previously achieved achievements. The new environmental goals are scheduled to be completed by 2020. Fortunately, Cummins has now completed 97% of its new targets. For Cummins, green development is endless.

Cummins Chairman and CEO Tom Linebarger said: We have been thinking about how to create wealth for shareholders and customers while reducing the impact on the environment.

Environmental protection is a hot keyword today. For many villagers in the global village, although they can’t get into environmental protection, they always want to contribute to environmental protection. The same is true for businesses.

Since 2014, Cummins has implemented more than 250 projects in fuel economy teams around the world. Equipment integration and system optimization for these projects can be used to analyze customer habits and reduce engine idling.

In addition, Cummins has achieved its goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 3.4 million tons per year. It is estimated that by 2020, the annual carbon dioxide emission reduction will reach 3.5 million tons and save up to 6.3 billion US dollars in fuel consumption.

Cummins also performed well on other environmental goals:

water

Since 2010, Cummins has reduced water use by 44% and is expected to reduce its water use by 50% by 2020. At the same time, Cummins’ water recycling and utilization work has also made progress. At present, 8 operations have realized the recycling of water, and 15 targets will be achieved by 2020. Change the way water is used by improving the way the community is used, such as saving water or providing new sources of water.

Energy and greenhouse gases

Up to now, Cummins’ energy consumption per unit of output has been reduced by 25%, and energy consumption is expected to decrease by 32% by 2020.

Waste

Cummins recovered 90% of its waste in 2017, a slight increase from 2016. It is estimated that 95% of waste will be recovered by 2020. In addition, the company has 10 operational addresses that have been certified as zero-abandoned operating facilities. Cummins Turbo Technology Co., Ltd. in Wuxi, China is one of them. Moreover, 18 operating facilities are also approaching zero waste. It is estimated that by 2020, zero-waste operation facilities will increase to 30.
