On March 18th, China Shipping Society (CCS) first ship engine China second-stage emission approval certificate was held at CCS Shanghai Branch. Dongfeng Cummins was approved the first national ship engine second-stage emission approval certificate.
Since the promulgation of the national standard “Limits and Measurement Methods for Exhaust Emissions of Marine Engines (China’s First and Second Phases)” (GB15097-2016), CCS has attached great importance to it and has carried out publicity and technical exchanges of relevant manufacturers.
In the process of Cummins Marine Engine China’s second-stage emission approval work, we actively responded to customer needs and provided timely technical support. Under the joint efforts of Cummins East Asia Marine Department, Dongfeng Cummins, China Automotive Technology Research Center and CCS, Dongfeng Cummins produced QSB series and QSL series marine EFI engines successfully completed China’s second-stage emission approval test and became the first manufacturer in China to obtain China’s second-stage marine engine emission approval certificate.
This Dongfeng Cummins shipboard type approval work was entrusted to China Automotive Research and Inspection Center (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. (referred to as “Tianjian Center”). The Tianjian Center was awarded the “Product Testing and Testing Agency Approval Certificate” in September 2018. “This is also the first ship type emission type approval test conducted by the Sky Inspection Center.” After more than one month of program negotiation, preparation of product documents, and approval of the plan, on January 17, 2019, the type approval plan approved by China Classification Society was implemented.
In order to simulate the real operating state of the marine engine, the approval test recommends the use of cooling water to simulate the seawater to cool the seawater radiator, which poses a new challenge to the mature running platform water system. The conventional gantry water system is pressurized by the concentrated water supply of the cooling tower. The concentrated water supply pressure of the cooling tower is 2 bar. The pressurized cooling water is again pressurized by 1 bar by the sea water pump, which will cause the cooling water pressure acting on the seawater radiator to exceed the radiator. The ultimate bearing pressure is 2.5 bar. The technical preparation before the start of the type approval inspection has become very necessary. After the innovative design with the inspection center, a pressure-reducing water tank is installed in the middle of the intercooler and the engine to ensure the normal operation of the seawater radiator. Existing rigs for ship type inspection. This innovation marks a milestone in the simulation of the real operating conditions of marine engines on any emission rig.
The type approval completed the ship inspection of 15 models of 3 platforms. The results showed that after adding the deterioration correction value, the gaseous pollutants of the 15 models contained carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbon (HC) and nitrogen oxide. The measurement results of (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) fully meet the emission limit requirements of the two-stage ship.
Finally, on March 18, 2019, Dongfeng Cummins successfully certified and became the first company to obtain the second phase certificate of domestic marine engines. This certification marks a new step in the practice of the domestic shipping industry in implementing the green shipping concept. It is also the actual action of both CCS and Cummins to respond to the blue sky defense battle.
