What is DCEC?

Dongfeng Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. (DCEC), located in Xiangyang, Hubei Province, is a 50/50 joint venture between Cummins Inc. and Dongfeng Automobile Co.,Ltd. In 1986, Dongfeng Automobile Co.,Ltd. signed a license agreement with Cummins Inc. for B-series engines. Dongfeng Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. was established in June 1996, with registered capital of over 100 million US dollars, land area of 270,000 square meters, and 2,200 employees.

DCEC mainly manufactures Cummins designed medium and heavy-duty engines, which include B, C, D, L, Z series, covering displacement of 3.9L, 4.5L, 5.9L, 6.7L, 8.3L, 8.9L, 9.5L and 13L and power ranged from 80 to 680 horsepower, meeting China’s NSV, NSVI, and CS IV emission standards, which are widely used in light, medium and heavy-duty trucks, urban bus and shuttle, construction machinery, marine and generator sets. DCEC engines feature excellent fuel economy, strong power, high reliability and durability, and environmental safety, and have won the recognition of customers all over the world. Cummins is a world’s leading powertrain solution provider, and Dongfeng is an extra-large automobile company in China. Based on the great support of Cummins Inc.’s global production system in the aspects of product development, manufacturing, quality and management, DCEC will constantly improve its competitiveness and provide customers with high quality engines.

Through business integration and optimization, DCEC has achieved annual production capacity of 214,000 engines. And through introduction of cutting-edge technologies and self-development, DCEC gradually grows in parallel with the European and American markets in terms of product development, thereby greatly improves the technological level of China’s medium and heavy-duty engines. DCEC has independently developed the new generation 13L full-electric heavy-duty truck engines, ranged from 430 to 600 horsepower, and gained the proprietary intellectual property rights.

The history of Dongfeng Cummins
Year 1986
On November 15, 1986, FAW signed a B-series diesel engine product and manufacturing technology license transfer contract with Cummins in the Fujian Hall of the Great Hall of the People.

Year 1996
Although the cooperation between the Dongfeng and Cummins has gone through more than ten years, the real joint venture was still in June 1996. And Dongfeng Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. was established in 1996.

Year 2003
Signed a capital increase and share expansion cooperation agreement with Cummins Corporation of the United States in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing

Year 2005
The then President Hu Jintao visited and started the research and development of the 13L engine with independent intellectual property rights

year 2006
Cummins East Asia R&D Center was established and the company’s business scope includes the provision of diesel and compressed natural gas (CNG) engines, power generation equipment.

Year 2007
The 1,000,000th engine of Dongfeng Cummins officially rolled off the production line, and the new 13-liter engine prototype was unveiled at the same venue which the model of Cummins QSZ13, ISZ13.

year 2013
The 2 millionth engine of Dongfeng Cummins rolled off the production line, and the new-generation Tianlong flagship equipped with Dongfeng Cummins 13 liters was unveiled at the Shanghai International Auto Show

Year 2015
Signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Dongfeng Teshang, and Dongfeng Liuzhou and Dongfeng Cummins signed a strategic cooperation agreement

Year 2016
The 30th Anniversary of the Cooperation between Dongfeng and Cummins and the Launch Meeting of the Genesis Truck Project

Year 2017
Dongfeng Cummins ISZ assisted KAMAZ-Master to win the Silk Road Rally and start the development of a full series of National VI product projects

Year 2018
The Oracle ERP upgrade project was successfully launched, and the Dongfeng Cummins Technology Center was established

Year 2019
On June 19, the 3 millionth engine of Dongfeng Cummins rolled off the production line. So far, Dongfeng Cummins has the ability to produce B, D, L, and Z series engines that meet China VI emissions, and can meet the power requirements of heavy, medium and light trucks and buses.

Year 2020
In 2020, the production and sales exceeded 200,000 units and the Z15N natural gas engine launched a series of employee celebration activities
